- A well-drafted will is the first piece of the puzzle. It can help to make sure that your assets are passed to the people you want after your death.
- There are two types of power of Attorney: Health and Welfare and Property and By setting up these two legal documents, you are naming someone who you trust to take care of your legal affairs on your behalf. They would be invoked if, for example, you were away from the UK for a period, or you became incapacitated and could not manage your affairs.
After your death, your estate enters into a legal process known as probate. This can take nine months to complete. None of your assets can be sold until the grant of probate is received. Any asset that is held in trust circumvents this process.
